Commander Scichilone joined the ASU Police Department in 1996 after serving in the United States Army as a Cavalry Scout / Operations & Logistics Specialist. While working towards his degree he was the Lead Supervisor of the Department's Campus Security Assistants Program. In May of 2000 he was selected to attend the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy in Phoenix, Arizona where he graduated and was sworn in as an AZ POST certified Police Officer. Upon completing the academy he was assigned to Patrol Operations.
Commander Scichilone also served as the department's grant writer and successfully wrote a $200,000 Department of Justice grant which was used to update the agency's CAD / RMS system. In addition, he has written grants that have funded an Automated Fingerprinting Identification System, Preliminary Breath Test Devices, Intoxilyzers, Patrol Bicycles, and DUI, Youth Alcohol, and Traffic Enforcement details. In total, his grants have awarded the department with over $500,000.00 in funding.
Commander Scichilone was promoted to Corporal in December of 2004 and served as a Detective from 2004 to 2006. He was promoted to Sergeant in November of 2006 and returned to Patrol Operations. As a Patrol Sergeant he served as the State DUI Task Force Coordinator and was the agency's representative in the East Valley DUI Task Force; the longest running multi-agency DUI Task Force in the United States.
Commander Scichilone was selected as the interim Commander at the Polytechnic campus from December 2010 to April 2011 and again at the Tempe campus from April 2012 to July 2012. He was promoted to Commander in July of 2012 and was assigned to oversee Patrol Operations at the Polytechnic campus in Mesa. After serving as the Commander over the Polytechnic campus, Commander Scichilone assumed the role of Support Services Commander in March of 2014 where he oversaw Investigations, Communications, Special Events, Evidence, Training, Records, Crime Prevention, and Fleet & Supply. While serving as the Support Services Commander he oversaw the creation and implementation of the department's Body Worn Camera Program as well as the department's first ever dual purpose Patrol / EOD K9. Commander Scichilone returned to Patrol Operations in June of 2017 and was assigned to the Polytechnic campus in Mesa. In May of 2018 he was assigned as the Commander over Patrol Operations at the Tempe campus, then he was assigned to oversee Patrol Operations at the Downtown Phoenix campus.
As a Sergeant, Commander Scichilone was recognized as Supervisor of the first, third and fourth quarters of 2011 as well as Supervisor of the Year. He has also been recognized for his participation and charitable contributions to the ASU Police Holiday Toy and Food Drive, the United Way Campaign, and the W. Steven Martin Toy Drive. He is an active member of the Student Assistance Coordination Committee and serves as Chair of the Public Safety Advisory Counsel.
Commander Scichilone has successfully completed numerous law enforcement related training courses and certifications over his 26 year career. He received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Justice Studies / Computer Science from Arizona State University in 1999 and is a graduate of the Arizona Problem-Oriented Leadership Institute for Chief / Command Executives as well as a graduate of the Arizona State University Mastering Leadership program.
In December of 2021 Commander Scichilone graduated from the 510th class of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command where he also served as Class President. Commander Scichilone currently oversees Patrol Operations for the Tempe, West, Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic, and MIX campuses.
