Bio

Dr. Johnson-Glenberg holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her areas of interest include reading disorders, health and STEM education. She has been the Principle Investigator on multiple federal grants from the Department of Education (IES), the National Institutes of Health (NICHD) and the National Science Foundation (EHR- DRK12). In addition, she has run several grants from private foundations including the fragile X Foundation - where she created a neural network of memory function simulating memory in those with fragile X syndrome, and The Gates Foundation/NGLC - where she created several serious games to teach middle school children about Simple Machines. She ran the research and assessment components of this program as well.

Her current projects can be experienced at http://egl.lsi.asu.edu/. She serves as the Director of EGL, the Embodied Games for Learning lab located at the Learning Sciences Institute. In addition, she is the co-Founder of an ASU spin-out company called SMALLab Learning  www.smallablearning.com

Dr. Johnson-Glenberg has published widely on cognition, embodied learning in new media, neural networks, and fragile X syndrome (the most common form of heritable intellectual disability). She has recently received funds to create an embodied exer-game using the Kinect sensor to teach children about nutrition and to combat obesity (The Alien Health Game) which can be viewed here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V81VaKD79rY.
