Victor Agadjanian is an Emeritus Professor in the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics. He was the E.E. Guillot International Distinguished Professor.
His research focuses primarily on the demographic aspects of social change in sub-Saharan Africa, the former Soviet Union, and Latin America. He views demographic phenomena not only as outcomes but also as an organic part of complex and rapid social transformation in those societies. His research therefore touches upon such diverse themes as reproduction and reproductive control, HIV/AIDS prevention, gender relations, traditional healing practices, and religious participation. In his research, Agadjanian employs various methods ranging from statistical analysis of large survey datasets to in-depth interviewing and ethnographic observation.
He is presently with the the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles: agadjanian@soc.ucla.edu.
