Bio

Alberto Acereda was a professor of Spanish and Latin American Literatures at Arizona State University from 1998 until 2012.  He earned his B.A. in Hispanic Philology from the University of Barcelona and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Georgia.

After departing ASU in 2012, he went to work in the Division of Higher Education at ETS Princeton and he also holds a Visiting professorship at the University of Pennsylvania. Acereda is still affiliated to the School of International Letters and Cultures and he is also a Research Faculty Affiliate in the Hispanic Research Center at ASU.

He is the author of several key scholarly books and editions on Latin American and Spanish poetry and particularly on the fin-de-siécle, modernismo and modernity within Hispanic literary and cultural studies. Acereda has also published, lectured, and taught extensively in the area of transatlantic literature, covering several areas and periods of both Spanish and Latin American literatures. He has been recognized as a world-class scholar on the major Hispanic poet Rubén Darío (1867-1916).

Acereda is also a member of the "North American Academy of the Spanish Language," a branch of the Royal Spanish Academy where he presides the "Hispanic Presence in the U.S." Committee. In 2005 he received the "International Rubén Darío Research Award" from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua and he was also honored with the "Distinguished Research Recognition" by the "Nicaraguan Institute of Hispanic Culture" at the Embassy of Spain in Nicaragua, and by the “Nicaraguan Royal Academy of the Spanish Language”.
