Bio

Dr. Jeanne Wilcox is Associate Dean of Research and the Nadine Mathis Basha Professor in Early Childhood in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.   Dr. Wilcox is also a Senior Learning Scientist in the ASU Learning Sciences Institute, an affiliated professor in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science and Founding Director of the Infant Child Research Programs (http://icrp.asu.edu ), which is an interdisciplinary program that provides education and therapeutic services to young children at-risk, training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, and serves as a base for numerous translational research projects.  She also leads a research institute (http://tnt.asu.edu )  that focuses on infusing adaptations and assistive technology to promote learning for young children who are at-risk for or have disabilities.  Her work is funded by the USDOE Institute for Education Sciences and the Office of Special Education Programs, as well as HHS.   She has an extensive record of publications and has been an invited speaker at numerous state, national, and international meetings and conferences.  She is also a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and recently completed a term as Vice President for Academic Affairs for the association.

Dr. Wilcox has mentored numerous undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students at ASU and other universities and she is internationally recognized for her expertise and scholarly activity focused on developing and testing early language and literacy interventions for young children who are at-risk for or have learning challenges. Her research activities are centered around three applied research themes including: development of innovative approaches to early care and  education interventions for vulnerable infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, curriculum efficacy research under controlled experimental conditions, and effectiveness research in actual practice settings.  

Research Interests

Early childhood development and education, with a specific focus on language and early literacy.  Research activities are centered around three applied research themes including: development of innovative approaches to early care and  education interventions for vulnerable infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, curriculum efficacy research under controlled experimental conditions, and effectiveness research in actual practice settings.
