Bio

Associate Professor and Associate Director, School of Human Evolution and Social Change

Field Specializations: Archaeology, Archaeological Chemistry, Bioarchaeology

Regional Focus: South America

Education

Ph.D. in Anthropology, University of Wisconsin at Madison

Bio

Research: Knudson's research focuses on political integration and the intersections of different social identities in the pre-Columbian Andes of Bolivia, Peru and Chile. She is also the director of the Archaeological Chemistry Laboratory at Arizona State University, where she and her research team apply biogeochemistry to anthropological research questions.

Teaching: Knudson's transdisciplinary approach to anthropology is reflected in her approach to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Whenever possible, she emphasizes hands-on learning experiences in archaeology, archaeological chemistry, and bioarchaeology.
