Kang Ping Chen is an associate professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy at Arizona State University. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanics in 1982 from Peking University, China, and doctorate in fluid mechanics from the University of Minnesota under the guidance of Professor Daniel D.Joseph. He was on the faculty of Clarkson University from 1990 to 1991 and moved to Arizona State University in 1991.
Chen’s research interests include multiphase flows, drag reduction, airplane de-icing, interfacial instabilities and flow in porous media. He has published extensively in highly reputable journals and his works have been frequently cited in the literature. He served as a guest editor for a special issue of Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics. He was a recipient of a 1991 Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation.
