The Department of Economics at ASU provides the highest quality instruction to students, conducts innovative research and provides leadership and service to its professional communities. ASU is ranked No. 35 among global universities for economics and business (U.S. News & World Report, 2023--2024).
The Bachelor of Science in economics degree is built on a strong core of micro- and macroeconomic theory supplemented by mathematics, statistics and data analysis. The flexibility of the BS degree enables students to supplement their study of economics with elective coursework offered by The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to broaden their knowledge and customize their program to suit individual goals and interests.

The world is increasingly interconnected, and study abroad enables students to explore economics in other countries while developing in-demand professional skills, such as cross-cultural communication and problem-solving. Summer programs can provide students with experience at international financial institutions, helping them increase their understanding of economics on a global scale. Students can learn more on the Global Education Office website.
Graduates possess the analytical tools and critical-thinking skills that have led some to placements with top private companies and consulting firms as well as within government. Others have landed research assistantships with the Federal Reserve and other nonprofit research institutions.
Those choosing to continue their studies have earned admission to top master's degree and doctoral programs in the U.S. and abroad. Economics is considered one of the best majors as preparation for law school, and some graduates have gone on to the best law schools in the country.
Example job titles and salaries listed below are not necessarily entry level, and students should take into consideration how years of experience and geographical location may affect pay scales. Some jobs also may require advanced degrees, certifications or state-specific licensure.
