Fluency in Spanish, coupled with critical thinking and analytical skills, will give you an unparalleled competitive edge in today's job market and our increasingly diverse society. Traveling, living and working in Spanish-speaking communities around the world provides many personal and professional opportunities for embracing life in a globalized world.
In the Bachelor of Arts program in Spanish, students gain reading, speaking and writing proficiency through either the Spanish linguistics track or the Spanish literature and culture track. The linguistics track provides an in-depth understanding of the Spanish language. In contrast, the literature and culture track addresses issues throughout the Spanish-speaking world, as seen through the lenses of the Spanish language, culture and literature.
Throughout the year, through study abroad and exchange programs, ASU offers opportunities to study in Spanish-speaking countries.
The BA program is also available to online students as a combination of courses from both tracks. Students are encouraged to contact a school advisor to discuss the best option.

Program learning outcomes identify what a student will learn or be able to do upon completion of their program. This program has the following program outcomes:
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing in Spanish at the Advanced-Low level according to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.
- Conduct a research project in the areas of Spanish language and/or cultural production.
- Analyze cultural concepts and values through course reflection assignments.
Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Culture teaches people about themselves and how to prepare for the challenges of life; learning about foreign cultures broadens that perspective to include other people whose lives may be both notably different from and remarkably similar to one's own.
Global Education programs provide students with opportunities for immersion in Spanish-speaking societies, along with a diverse array of individual and group activities that enable them to have enriching personal experiences. Global Education programs enhance students' experiences of the world's diversity --- and the knowledge of such diversity makes every person a better human and citizen.
Knowledge of multiple languages and having intercultural competencies enhance any occupation and offer graduates many career opportunities. Language-intensive professions include:
- foreign correspondent
- foreign media professional
- foreign service officer
- international banking and finance professional
- language, literature or culture teacher
- law and immigration professional
- multilingual administrative professional
- translator or interpreter
- travel professional
Example job titles and salaries listed below are not necessarily entry level, and students should take into consideration how years of experience and geographical location may affect pay scales. Some jobs also may require advanced degrees, certifications or state-specific licensure.
