In the Bachelor of Science program in health sciences, students learn about health care systems and how systems are financed and structured. The role of providers in delivering evidence-based care is highlighted, along with the development of skills in leadership, professionalism, effective communication and ethical conduct. Modern challenges are analyzed, leading graduates to develop innovative solutions.
Students focus their learning in one of the following areas:
- community-based health outcomes
- health legislation and regulation
- health and media
- integrative care
- mental and behavioral health
A limited number of students each year may apply to pursue the echocardiography certificate through Mayo Clinic after taking prerequisite courses. Following certificate completion, students may transfer the credits for application toward the bachelor's degree in health sciences. Interested students should seek advising before starting coursework.

Program learning outcomes identify what a student will learn or be able to do upon completion of their program. This program has the following program outcomes:
- Understand the role and scope of health care professions in providing evidence-based care.
- Assess the role of domestic and global health care systems in influencing health outcomes for a given population.
- Apply interpersonal professional skills required to work within a healthcare-related organization.
Study abroad provides health sciences students with the opportunity to develop a valuable skill set, such as flexibility and communication skills, that can give them an advantage in their professional career. Students gain personal enrichment through exposure to distinct health environments, where they learn culturally specific health approaches and much more.

Graduates are prepared to continue their education in graduate or professional school or to enter the health field or health care workforce in a variety of capacities, including indirect patient, direct patient and community care roles.

- health maintenance organization or insurance company client coach
- health and patient educator
- Healthy Start coordinator
- home health care coordinator
- long-term care health and wellness coordinator

Graduates also may choose to pursue advanced degree programs in various discipline-specific medical fields.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
