The country is experiencing a shortage of nursing faculty. The Master of Science degree program, with a concentration in nursing education, prepares students to advance their career and achieve their goal of becoming a nurse educator in an academic or practice setting. This program prepares students to teach future nurses and nursing leaders. Program highlights include:

Coursework in the MS in nursing with a concentration in nursing education is delivered completely online, providing flexibility for students to balance their education and their career. Additionally, students complete a one-credit hour population health practicum in the location where the student lives.
Courses in this program are led by experienced nursing faculty and designed with active learning strategies. Throughout the program, students learn the key competencies of a prepared nurse at the master's degree level while they gain additional nursing education skills. Students complete direct care clinical hours and a role-focused applied practicum that enables students to work with a preceptor in an area or role best suited to their career goals.
The curriculum meets the competencies outlined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials.

Students who have an associate degree in nursing can consider pursuing ASU's online RN to MS in nursing with a concentration in nursing education pathway option.

Students in the RN to MS in nursing (nursing education) bridge program complete 39 credit hours for this degree. In addition to fulfilling the requirements listed above, these students must complete NUR 552 Dynamics of Professional Nursing I and NUR 553 Dynamics of Professional Nursing II before starting the MS curriculum.

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation.
Applicants must have earned an associate, bachelor's or master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in their associate degree nursing program or the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.
All applicants must be licensed as registered nurses.
Applicants are required to submit:
- graduate admission application and application fee
- official transcripts
- resume
- proof of completion of a statistics course with a "C" or better
- proof of English proficiency
Additional Application Information
An applicant whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency regardless of their current residency.
Completion of a statistics course with a "C" or better (scale is 4.00 = "A") should be evident on the applicant's transcripts, although applicants may still be admitted to the program with additional required coursework in statistics. Statistics is a required prerequisite for all MS in nursing programs.
Applicants applying to the RN to MS bridge option (those who will not have a bachelor's degree in nursing conferred before enrolling in the MS in nursing program) need to provide a transcript that shows at least 72 earned undergraduate credit hours from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent to apply to the master's degree program.
An interview with faculty may be required for applicants who have a bachelor's degree in nursing or higher. Applicants to the RN to MS bridge option are required to interview with faculty.
Students who are admitted with an associate degree will be required to complete additional coursework in their plan of study.
Applicants must be able to verify U.S. citizenship or lawful immigration status. Applicants must live in or be able to come to an authorized state in the U.S. for any required clinical or practicum experiences.
Licensure requirements: Applicants for the MS in nursing and MS program in nursing with a concentration in nursing education must meet one of the following criteria:
- Applicants must hold a current unencumbered RN license in an authorized state in which they plan to do clinical practicums.
- Applicants who have recently graduated from a BSN program must provide proof of a valid U.S. RN license before beginning any courses in the second semester of the master's degree program.
Health and Safety Requirements: Students recommended for admission must meet health and safety requirements by established deadlines, including a passing disposition on a background clearance, satisfactory completion of a substance screen and other requirements as a condition of admission.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Acceptance to the graduate program requires a separate application. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master’s during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program.
